Frequently Asked Questions
What age are the classes designed for?
Our classes are designed for children aged 2.5 to 5 years old. They are perfect for little ones getting ready for school to give them a fun introduction to maths but equally are great for any families wanting to know more about children’s mathematical development and just have some fun with maths and movement!
Where are your classes held?
We’re currently running classes at Gomersal Public Hall. This venue has a lovely big space for children to move around, free parking, ramp access and toilet facilities. We will be announcing new venues soon, to be the first to hear sign up to our waitlist here and keep an eye on our social media for updates.
When are your classes?
Our next course is running in the second summer term, starting on Tuesday 10th June 2025 and repeating every week for 6 weeks, ending on Tuesday 15th July 2025. It starts at 9:45 am and finishes at 10:45 am… but that’s just the beginning, join our waitlist to be the first to hear about our new classes on other days of the week.
Are you running taster classes?
Yes! On Tuesday 6th May and Tuesday 13th May 2025 we’re running classes at 9:45 am and 11:00 am at Gomersal Public Hall. These classes last 45 minutes and give a great taster of our course. In each class children will explore mathematical concepts through active games, song and play. We have an exciting theme planned to engage the children, they’ll meet our friendly mascot and party under the parachute! Plus there will be a chance for the adults to relax as the children enjoy explorative play with their new maths skills. All this for half the price of our usual class at just £3.75. Places are limited. Book your child’s place here.
How much do the classes cost?
An individual class costs £7.50 and lasts one hour. Although you can book individual classes here, we run our classes as part of a termly course over a 6-week period. We recommend booking a full course to allow children to develop a wider range of mathematical and movement skills and allow them to practice and build upon them each week. Our course costs just £40, which includes a discount of over 10%. You can book your child’s place here.
Are younger siblings welcome?
Yes absolutely! Please just let us know on the booking form as we need to know for insurance purposes. There’s no charge and our venue is pram friendly!
My child doesn’t show an interest in maths or numbers. Can they still come?
Of course! No prior knowledge is needed for the children or the adults! We love teaching children of all abilities and supporting parents with early maths development. Our classes are about building confidence through play and movement. We make maths fun for all!
My child already knows how to count to 20. Are the classes still suitable?
Yes! We challenge children through active learning, problem-solving, and physical games - so even if they already enjoy numbers, they’ll still be engaged and stretched. Our classes are NOT about learning to count to 20. We develop number sense and an understanding of shapes, measure and patterns in maths. Equally, we develop balance and coordination skills through movement. There’s always lots to learn!
Who runs the classes?
Jump Start Maths has been co-founded by two experienced teachers, Emma and Chloe. Find out more about them here.
